Provisional Insolvency

Questions & Answers

On Monday, October 21, 2024, we had to file for insolvency. Attorney Dr. Alexander Fridgen, a partner at Baker Tilly, has been appointed as our provisional insolvency administrator. Since then, we’ve been working through a preliminary insolvency process with the goal of securing investors and setting Off up to continue operating. Initial negotiations are already underway. We understand that you have a lot of questions. We will do our best to answer them right here!

Provisional Insolvency

What does this mean for you as a customer?

Two things are important:
  • We’re still here for you! If we haven’t reached out to you, your booking will proceed as planned. We’re working with our provisional insolvency administrator, Dr. Alexander Fridgen, to stabilize the company, find an investor, and continue delivering unforgettable camping trips
  • We would love to answer all your questions immediately, but unfortunately that’s not possible right now. Many decisions are still up in the air and will only become clear in the coming days and weeks. What we can promise is: every answer we currently have is here on this page, which reflects our most up-to-date information. Right now, our Customer Service team doesn’t have any additional info. So unfortunately, reaching out to us or Baker Tilly for further details won’t yield more information at this time. As soon as there are any updates, we’ll reach out to you proactively.

What happens to my booking?

The insolvency proceedings we’re now legally subject to bring certain regulations that we must follow in our business operations. The insolvency administrator is required to ensure the fair distribution of the insolvency assets and protect the rights of all creditors.
What does this mean for you?
  • Rentals between 10.12.2024 & 31.12.2024
Since filing for insolvency, we have tried to continue to make all trips possible. To date, this has worked well, but unfortunately the provisional insolvency proceedings do not allow us to continue using the vehicles assigned as security during the remaining period of the provisional insolvency proceedings (10.12.-31.12.2024). Therefore, no camper trips can take place during this period.
We are very sorry about this!
  • Bookings starting through Sunday, 27.10.2024
Your camper rental will proceed as planned. The deposit you leave at pickup will either be held on your credit card or transferred via debit card to a trust account, ensuring it’s separate from other assets involved in the insolvency process.
  • Bookings starting on or after Monday, 28.10.2024, made ON or BEFORE Tuesday, 22.10.24
As of now, we fully expect your camper rental to proceed as planned. However, should the insolvency administrator, together with the creditors' committee, decide to discontinue operations — for example, if no buyer or investor can be found — we may have to cancel. As much as we’d love to, in that case, we wouldn’t be able to simply refund your deposit. The same applies in the event of a cancellation. Your deposit would become part of what’s called the "insolvency table" and would be repaid as best as possible upon completion of the process.
  • Bookings starting on or after Monday, 18.10.2024, made ON or AFTER Wednesday, 28.10.24
As of now, we fully expect all camper rentals to go ahead as planned. If, however, the administrator and creditors' committee ultimately decide to discontinue the business because no buyer or investor was found, you’ll receive a prompt and secure refund since deposits received as of 23.10.24 go into a trust account. If you choose to cancel, our regular cancellation policy applies.

What about my refund?

If you've traveled with us before, you may still be waiting on a deposit refund. We generally recommend paying the deposit via credit card. If that’s the case for you, the deposit was only blocked and will be released within 4-6 weeks. For deposits paid via transfer or debit card, or if other refunds are pending, we unfortunately can’t provide a definitive timeline just yet. In the short term, we’re unable to simply refund you. In the worst case, your deposit will be included in the "insolvency table" and repaid as fully as possible once the process is complete.

Can I still cancel my booking?

If you wish to cancel your booking, we completely understand. Right now, we can’t simply refund your deposit. In case of cancellation, your deposit will likely become part of the so-called insolvency table, which will be settled as best as possible at the end of the process.
If you keep your booking and wait for news from us, you wouldn’t lose your claim even if the company isn’t continued. Here too, your deposit would become part of the insolvency table and be settled as best as possible at the end of the process.
So, canceling doesn’t improve the situation for your deposit. As soon as there are updates regarding your booking, we’ll proactively reach out to you!

I'm currently on a trip – what should I do?

You don’t need to worry about anything. Enjoy your trip and return your camper to the station on the agreed return date. Our Customer Service remains available as usual from 9 am to 10 pm and will assist with any questions or help related to your trip.

I still have a voucher – what should I do?

This too will depend on what happens next for us. We’ll proactively keep you posted with updates.

Is there any risk in making a new booking?

Since 04.11.24 you no longer have to pay for your booking in advance. You can pay for your camper rent conveniently and in full at pick up on site. This gives you the opportunity to pay only when you can be sure that your trip will actually take place.
You can easily pay by EC card, credit card or debit card. Please note that cash payments and American Express are unfortunately not possible. As the deposit should only be blocked and not transferred, only valid credit cards (have PIN ready) from Visa, Mastercard, Diners Club and JCB are accepted. Please make sure that it is the credit card of the main tenant and clarify in advance whether the credit limit of your bank is sufficient. The blocked amount will then simply be unblocked after you return your camper.
So to answer the question clearly: there is a risk that you are looking forward to a trip that, in the worst case, cannot take place. But: there is no risk to your payment.

Will the Off customer support still be available to me?

Yes. Since business operations are continuing as usual for now, we’re still here for any booking or travel questions you have, from 9 am to 10 pm. Please note, however, that our Customer Service team doesn’t have additional information regarding the insolvency process, so additional inquiries won’t yield further details. As soon as we have updates, we’ll reach out to you proactively.

Do I still need to pay any unpaid invoices to Off?

Yes. Any outstanding invoices (unpaid balances or damage charges) still need to be paid.

Provisional Insolvency

What does this mean for Off?

The provisional insolvency administrator, Dr. Alexander Fridgen, aims to continue operations while searching for a new investor. Initial negotiations are already underway. Salaries for employees are secured through the end of 2024.

General information about the provisional insolvency process

On October 21, 2024, we filed for the opening of insolvency proceedings with the local court. To protect company assets and prevent any potential unfavorable changes, a provisional insolvency administration was appointed. Attorney Dr. Alexander Fridgen from Munich was named the provisional insolvency administrator. He is tasked with overseeing our financial matters and safeguarding assets. From now on, any disposition of CamperBoys GmbH’s assets must have his approval to be effective.

What are the responsibilities of the provisional insolvency administrator?

The administrator has extensive authority, including oversight of all financial transactions. He is authorized to collect CamperBoys GmbH’s receivables and receive incoming funds. These measures are necessary to ensure the fair distribution of assets and protect the rights of all creditors.

What led to the insolvency?

The business model has been under significant strain due to rising supply costs, high financing expenses, and decreasing market residual values. Both management and existing investors remained confident in a major funding round with external investors and provided interim financing to bridge the gap. Unfortunately, the financing round fell through in mid-October, making the insolvency filing unavoidable.

How can I help?

Do you know potential investors or networks that could support us?

A message to you

We feel extremely sorry that we had to take this step, but we still believe there’s a path forward. With restructuring and a new investor, we hope to make our business sustainable for the future. Every single one of us has put not only a tremendous amount of time and effort but also heart and soul into this company. We’ll do everything we can to keep camper trips going because our mission hasn’t changed: We want to make life an adventure. For everyone. Every day. For that, we need your trust. Andi & Paul and the entire Off team 🧡
