Insolvency

Questions & Answers

At the beginning of October, we had to file for insolvency.
Now, we want to share an important update: The camper rental company Vanever has taken over parts of Off Campers following the insolvency. You’ll find all the details here.

Insolvency & Updates

What happens next?

The CamperBoys GmbH, under which the Off brand operated, is insolvent. Some parts of Off have been taken over by FreeVenture GmbH and its camper rental brand Vanever. The Hamburg & Munich locations, along with part of the team, will continue under new management. As Off and Vanever grow closer together, you can now book your next adventure right here on this website again.
What remains unchanged is everything you love about a great camper experience: excellent service, a friendly vibe, and the reassurance that your booking is in good hands.
Important: FreeVenture is an independent company and has not assumed any liabilities or debts from Off. For assistance with financial claims, the appointed insolvency administrator, Dr. Alexander Fridgen (Baker Tilly), is available to help at camperboys@bakertilly.de

How can I contact the insolvency administrator?

How can I contact the insolvency administrator?
CamperBoys GmbH is now insolvent, and the appointed insolvency administrator is Dr. Alexander Fridgen from Baker Tilly. Unfortunately, we can no longer assist with claims or bookings made before the insolvency filing (October 23, 2024).
If you have a claim against CamperBoys GmbH (such as a canceled booking, an outstanding invoice, or a voucher), you can submit it as part of the official insolvency proceedings. Your claim will be recorded in the insolvency table and will be settled as best as possible once the process is completed. If you have not yet been contacted by the insolvency administrator, please reach out to him directly. Claims can be submitted until February 18, 2025.

We sincerely apologize to all customers, colleagues, and partners affected—both financially and emotionally—by this situation. It was never our intention, and we are truly sorry.

What happens to my booking?

  • Bookings made before October 22, 2024
The insolvency administrator has already contacted everyone with a booking made before the insolvency filing. If you haven’t received any updates, please reach out directly to Dr. Fridgen at camperboys@bakertilly.de, and he will assist you.
  • Bookings made between October 22 – December 31, 2024
Your deposit was placed in a separate escrow account managed by the insolvency administrator. Your booking was originally made with CamperBoys GmbH under the Off brand, which is now insolvent and will be liquidated.
Some parts of Off, including the Munich & Hamburg locations, have been taken over by FreeVenture GmbH, which also operates Vanever, a camper rental company known for its passion for freedom and adventure.
These locations will now be run by Vanever, ensuring that your booking can proceed as planned with the same high level of service and support.
However, as the new owner, FreeVenture cannot automatically transfer bookings from the former CamperBoys GmbH. We need your active confirmation to proceed with your rental or to cancel your trip. Of course, we would love for you to continue your journey with us!
We have contacted everyone affected via email. If you haven’t received a message, please get in touch at info@off-campers.com.
Since we were unable to find a buyer for the entire company, we regretfully have to close the following locations: Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hanover, Halle, Nuremberg, and Weilheim an der Teck. If you had a booking at one of these locations, we are happy to offer you a free transfer to one of our operating locations: Hamburg, Munich, Augsburg, Salzburg, or Münster. Alternatively, you can cancel your booking. In either case, please contact info@off-campers.com.
Thank you for your understanding!
  • Bookings from January 1, 2025, onwards
Since January 1, Off has been part of FreeVenture GmbH. As you can see in our imprint and terms & conditions, all bookings from this date onward are managed by FreeVenture. Your trip will go ahead as planned, and we are excited to provide you with an unforgettable camper experience!

What about refunds or outstanding claims from 2024?

If you were expecting a refund from CamperBoys GmbH, please note that the company is now insolvent. The insolvency administrator, Dr. Alexander Fridgen, is handling all financial claims.
If you have a pending claim (e.g., a canceled booking, unpaid invoice, or unused voucher), you can submit it to be included in the insolvency proceedings. Once the process is completed, claims will be settled as best as possible. If you haven’t been contacted yet, please reach out to the administrator before February 18, 2025.
Contact Dr. Alexander Fridgen: camperboys@bakertilly.de
We deeply regret any financial or emotional distress caused by this situation and appreciate your patience and understanding.

Can I cancel my 2024 booking?

If you wish to cancel a booking from 2024, we completely understand. Please send an email to info@off-campers.com, and we will forward your cancellation request to the insolvency administrator. Refunds may take longer than usual, but rest assured, you will receive your money back.
If you booked in 2025 and want to cancel, our standard cancellation policy applies:

I have a voucher — what now?

If you received a voucher from CamperBoys GmbH in 2024 or earlier, unfortunately, it is no longer valid, as its value is part of the insolvency proceedings. However, you can submit the voucher amount as a claim to the insolvency administrator.
For submission or questions, please contact camperboys@bakertilly.de.
This does not apply to marketing discount promotions such as early booking discounts, long-term discounts, referral discounts, or influencer discounts used in 2024.

Is it safe to make a new booking?

Yes! Since January 1, 2025, part of Off has been taken over by FreeVenture GmbH and its camper rental brand Vanever.
With this transition, we have introduced a modern and sustainable business model designed to address past challenges. Instead of acquiring Off’s previous vehicles, Vanever now operates with an innovative partner fleet. The campers are provided by specialized dealers and converters who understand exactly what is needed. At the end of the season, the vehicles are returned, allowing Vanever to focus entirely on offering you an exceptional rental experience.
With this flexible and sustainable approach, Vanever is well-prepared for the future—and for all the adventures that await you!

Will the Off customer support still be available to me?

Yes. Since business operations are continuing as usual for now, we’re still here for any booking or travel questions you have, from 9 am to 10 pm. Please note, however, that our Customer Service team doesn’t have additional information regarding the insolvency process, so additional inquiries won’t yield further details. As soon as we have updates, we’ll reach out to you proactively.

What does this mean for Off?

Part of Off has been taken over by FreeVenture GmbH, which also operates the camper rental company Vanever—known for its love of freedom and adventure.
The Hamburg and Munich locations, along with part of the team, will remain under new management. Off and Vanever will now continue to grow together, combining the best of both worlds.
For you, nothing changes: the same excellent service, the same friendly vibe—and you can rest assured that your booking is secure.
Since we were unable to find a buyer for the entire company, we unfortunately have to close our locations in Berlin, Stuttgart, Frankfurt, Düsseldorf, Hanover, Halle, Nuremberg, and Weilheim an der Teck. A heartfelt thank you to all our customers who started their camper journeys from these locations over the years, and an even bigger thank you to our incredible teams on-site.
The Hamburg and Munich locations will now be joined by Augsburg, Salzburg, and Münster. We are excited about all the adventures ahead!

What are the reasons behind the insolvency of CamperBoys GmbH?

The business model of CamperBoys GmbH came under significant pressure due to rising purchase prices, high financing costs, and declining residual values in the market. Both the management and existing investors believed in securing a major funding round with external investors until the very end and provided interim financing to bridge the gap. Unfortunately, the funding round failed in mid-October, making the insolvency filing unavoidable.
Now, part of Off has been taken over by FreeVenture GmbH and its camper rental brand, Vanever.
With this transition, we have introduced a modern and future-proof business model that directly addresses the challenges of the past. Instead of taking over Off’s previous fleet, Vanever operates with an innovative partner model. Campers are provided by specialized dealers and converters who have extensive expertise in the field. At the end of each season, the vehicles are returned, allowing Vanever to focus entirely on delivering an outstanding rental experience.
Another major advantage is that we have integrated Off’s advanced rental software into our system. This helps us streamline operations, improve efficiency, and ensure everything runs smoothly.
With this flexible and sustainable approach, Vanever is well-equipped for the future—and for all the adventures that await you! We look forward to starting this new journey together and making your travels truly unforgettable.

A message to you

We sincerely apologize to all customers, colleagues, and partners affected both financially and emotionally by this insolvency. This was never our intention, and we deeply regret it. With Vanever’s acquisition, we are happy to be able to preserve part of Off and continue making camper travel possible with a sustainable business model.
