Bridging days 2023 – Our tips for camping holidays!

In the last few years bridging day were not very useful. But this year you can get the maximum amount of holidays. Instead of eight, only three public holidays fall on a weekend. Depending on the federal state and with clever holiday planning you can almost double your time off with the public holidays. We show you how to do so and also have the best travel tips for you!

At the very beginning of 2023, you only have to take four days off to have nine days off in total. Epiphany (06.01.) is a public holiday at least in Bavaria, Baden Württemberg and Saxony-Anhalt. So you can rent a camper and head to the mountains for a long weekend of hiking, skiing or relaxing. If you can take a few more bridge days from 02.01. - 05.01. going on a longer camping trip is a good idea.

How about winter camping?

In Austria there are many campsites that are ideal for winter camping. In the heart of the Ötztal on the edge of a forest lies the Camping Ötztal Längenfeld in the village of the same name. A fantastic mountain backdrop and a lot of leisure activities await you. Are you a winter sports fan? Then you'll definitely get your money's worth here. The start and finish point of a 40-kilometre cross-country ski trail is right at the campsite. A dream for cross-country skiers. For skiers and snowboarders, there is a free shuttle bus to the Ötztal Arena ski paradise in Sölden which is leaving every 10 minutes. For those who like to relax the campsite offers a sauna. The Aqua Dome is also only about 250 m awa and campsite guests receive a 10 percent discount on the entrance fees.

There are three public holidays in April (07.04. Good Friday, 09.04. Easter Sunday and 10.04. Easter Monday). That means you only need to take eight more bridge days and get 16 days off. Easter is ideal for a camping holiday. In spring, everything is in bloom and the landscape is beautiful. But where to go with your motorhome around Easter?

You can do a lot with 16 holidays. The south is particularly popular for camping in April. We recommend Spain. Because at the beginning of April, when the daffodils and tulips are slowly starting to bloom over here, the Spanish landscape is already in full bloom. In addition, temperatures of around 20 degrees sound tempting. With a camper van, you can enjoy the Spanish spring while driving along the coast from Barcelona to Valencia to Malaga.

The campsite Tres Estrellas is located south of Barcelona directly at the beach in the district of Gavà. There are pitches by the sea in the shade of pine trees. By city bus you can reach the centre of Barcelona in about 1 hour and see all the sights and highlights of the city.

May is crying out for a trip into the sun. Due to the Whitsun weekend (28.06.-29.06.23) you only need to take 4 days off and get a whole week off. In addition, 01.05. (Labour Day) falls on a Monday which automatically gives you a long weekend. 18.05. is Ascension Day. Holidays on a Thursday are particularly handy as you only need to take one day off to go on a short camping trip.

Thanks to many public holidays you get offered many opportunities for several vacation days. A real paradise for campers is the French island of Corsica. Even if you have to travel over by ferry the crossing is very worthwhile. The fastest way to get there is from Livorno in Italy to Bastia. You can also start from Nice and Marseille in France or Genoa and Savona in Italy. Tip: Day trips and trips during the week are cheaper than night trips and crossings at the weekend.
