Before we take a look at vacation destinations, possible road trips and hikes in Bavaria, we turn our attention to other areas which might also be interesting for many. We start in our beloved state capital - Munich.

Significant sights in the state capital Munich

Nymphenburg Palace

Besides Neuschwanstein Castle in Bavaria's Allgäu region, Bavaria's capital Munich is also home to a famous palace steeped in history, namely Nymphenburg Palace which stands out with its impressive architecture and monumental dimensions. The abundance of water and the green landscape surrounding the castle almost make it feel like you're on a vacation in nature.

Eisbachwelle

If you're looking for an active vacation or want to show your kids something to marvel at, be sure to visit the so-called Eisbach wave at the southern part of the English Garden, where crowds of spectators gather on warm days to watch the surfers.

Munich city centre

Other more famous sights and popular destinations can mainly be found in the city centre, such as Marienplatz or Odeonsplatz.

BMW World

As a final tip - especially if you're travelling with children - we can recommend the Olympiazentrum as a destination. In addition to the BMW plant, museum and world - where you can learn about the history of the Bavarian company - the Olympic Center itself offers some attractions.

Olympiapark

Among other things, there's the Olympic Village, which served as accommodation for the athletes at the 1972 Olympic Games and is now used as a normal residential complex. To the south there's the Olympic Stadium, which was the stadium of FC Bayern until the completion of the Allianz Arena.

The Olympiasee as well as the Olympiaberg are perfect for hiking and from the Olympiaturm you can look far beyond Munich even to the Alps in the south of Bavaria.

Vacation region: Bavarian Forest

A somewhat lesser known, but no less interesting travel destination in Bavaria is the Bavarian Forest, which is located in Germany mainly in Lower Bavaria and the Upper Palatinate. Due to its variety of possible vacation types, it is a vacation region that should not be underestimated.

Active vacations such as hiking or cycling are well possible in many places here, such as the more than 130 mountain peaks over 1000 metres like the Arber, Osser, Rachel, Lusen or Brotjacklriegel or also on the several hundred kilometres of bike paths. Of course you can also ski in the Bavarian Forest, but only in winter, of course.
If that's too much action for you and you're looking for a more relaxed vacation in the Bavarian Forest, a wellness vacation in one of the many wellness hotels - which can be found on almost every corner - is certainly a good idea. Of course, an active vacation can also be combined with a wellness vacation.
