Slovenia is perfect for those who love pure nature!

Tolls, Journey & Traffic in Slovenia

Journey

The journey to Slovenia is quick and uncomplicated. From Germany, it is best to take the A8 via Munich and Salzburg. Then continue on the Tauern motorway (A10) via Villach and through the Karawanken tunnel to reach Slovenia.

Vignettes and tolls

For the trip to Slovenia and back there are tolls and we did some research on the current prices (Jan. 2023) for you. The Tauern motorway costs 13.50€ and the Karawanken tunnel 7.40€ for a single passage. On top of that you'll need a vignette for Austria which is 10€ and the one for Slovenia which is 30€. All in all, that's about 80 € in tolls for your destination Slovenia. Tip: On `Digital vignette online` you can get the vignettes online and there's no waiting time. So you can get them there and don't have to stop for it during your trip.

Traffic

The maximum speed limit in built-up areas is 50 km/h, on expressways you are allowed to drive 100 km/h and the maximum on motorways is 130 km/h. In addition, high-visibility vests are mandatory for all passengers in the car.

Camping in Slovenia: What you should know

Slovenia is the perfect country for camping! There are many campsites for everyone: Outdoor sportsmen, families, dog owners & co. So what are you waiting for? Just get in your camper and go!

Costs and campsite reservations

All in all, Slovenia is a very cheap country for camping. Depending on the season and campsite, you pay between 10€ and 20€ per night per person. In the low season (October - April) you can easily arrive at the campsite with your camper, tent or RV without a reservation. In May it is a bit more difficult, because many campers are on the road during the holidays. But if you are flexible and don't want a pitch in the very first row at the lake or river, then you can also go camping in Slovenia in May without a reservation.

Wild camping in Slovenia

It is very tempting to put your camper or motorhome in a remote place somewhere in nature. However, wild camping is prohibited in Slovenia and especially in the high season there are many inspections. You can read up on all the important information again in a separate blog article. Camping at a campsite in Slovenia is almost as idyllic as wild camping, because most campsites are located directly at the lake or river. In the following section we'll tell you about our favorite campsites.

Most of us camp for the love of nature and the incomparable feeling of freedom. Unfortunately, in many cases this harms both nature and the local economy. Here are a few tips that you should keep in mind when wild camping.

  • Leave the place as clean as you found it!

  • Be careful not to disturb animals and nature through noise or fire!

  • Dispose of gray water at designated stations!

  • Be considerate of residents and fellow campers!

  • Support the local tourism and give back to your vacation destination!
