Travel inspiration from the camper crew
The year has only just begun, but as true travel fans and globetrotters, we have already started thinking about our travel destinations for 2022. And although the majority of our top destinations are within Europe and therefore easily accessible by camper, there are also some long-distance trips on the agenda...
Do you feel the anticipation? Are you already scouring the internet for travel trends, top ten destinations, and hunting for offers? Then you've come to the right place! Let yourself be surprised, inspired and maybe even tempted to your next adventure by the travel plans and destinations of some of our most travel-loving crew members.

My husband and I are going on several trips this year, but so far we have only really planned to fly to South Africa in March. My in-laws live there, and we try to visit them every year for three to four weeks. This year our visit is going to be a little different than the last few times because we are taking two friends with us. They've never been to South Africa before, so we're doing the full tourist program in and around Cape Town with them, even though my partner and I already know the area pretty well, of course. But playing tour guide can be quite fun! On our list are e.g. the Kruger National Park and a four-day safari.
Our friends will only stay with us for two weeks, and my partner and I will spend our last week in South Africa alone with his parents. We then work remotely from there. Since my sister lives in Zimbabwe, she may also join us for a few days. But the funniest thing is that Simon (Teamlead People Support) will be in South Africa at the same time! So hopefully there'll be a small Off reunion on the other side of the world.

I've been waiting for two years for Australia - one of my favorite travel destinations - to open its borders again. I lived there for some time during my studies and actually wanted to go back in 2020, but then the pandemic came and ruined my plans. Now I hope to get to Australia around Christmas at the latest, more precisely to Queensland.
The plan is to drive along the coast, with a locally rented camper of course. I like to take care of the camper rental and the flights quite far in advance, so the whole thing works out as smoothly as cheap as possible and without problems. I'll rather book the campsites spontaneously to remain flexible. There's simply no better feeling for me than to wake up on the beach in the morning and just let the day happen, and travelling by camper makes exactly that possible! Of course, Australia also has beautiful cities up its sleeve: I won't miss Sydney, and hopefully I'll also manage to pay a visit to my very favorite small town called Noosa. The whole vacation is currently still very dependent on whether and when Australia lets tourists back into the country. But as they say, hope dies last.

This year I'll go on a road trip with a Camper once again - preferably with an ´in-house` Grand California, if one is free at the planned time. I'm going to Mont Saint-Michel in the French Normandy, the ´castle in the sea` in spring or at the beginning of summer. I want to go there this year because I find it incredibly fascinating how long this castle has defied the sea and the tides.
In the end, the joy is in the journey, as I will probably be able to explore the castle itself within 1-2 days. The trip back from Workation in Portugal - a 30 hour road trip to Munich - was a lot of fun after all, so I'm not only looking forward to Mont-Saint-Michel but also to the drive there. Luckily, I can work remotely, so I can be on the road for longer periods of time - on the way back, I want to make a detour to Luxembourg. Fun Fact: Once I've been to Luxembourg, I've seen every country in Europe at least once!

Funnily enough, Andi and I have chosen the same destination independently of each other - me and my girlfriend are going to Mont-Saint-Michel as well this year. Our way back at least differs from Andi's plans: We have planned a stop in beautiful Paris and in Ghent, Belgium, because an acquaintance of ours lives there. We will also be on the road with the camper as it is perfect for such a trip. Because we will be on the road with the camper, we can also spontaneously decide whether we want to look at the surrounding area a little closer. I'm waiting until we are a well-experienced team in Düsseldorf and I can be away from work for a week with a clear conscience. Who knows, maybe chance will have it that we're at the castle at the same time as Andi!

My planning for this year is not quite specific yet, but the plan is to spend one or two weeks with friends at my girlfriend's house in Finland. We are currently still thinking about whether we go there by camper or plane - I'm doing my best to convince the others of the camper, of course, afterwards I would very much like to drive through Denmark and Sweden to see as much as possible. We might also split up, so that one part flies and the other part drives by camper, so we also have a flexible means of transport at our destination. Otherwise, we'll probably have a pretty relaxed vacation mainly in and around the house - a highlight is the lake on which the house is located, we'll certainly spend some time there. If we have a camper on site, we can of course move even more freely and get to see places further away from our base.

After spending the last few months in Portugal, I'm really looking forward to going skiing with friends now that I'm back in Germany. Otherwise, I always like to plan my vacation in a way that allows me to go on one longer trip for two to three weeks and otherwise I'd rather go on smaller short trips over the weekend, also to visit my friends who are spread all over Germany or even Europe. For this summer, one of my travel destinations is definitely Slovenia. According to what I've heard, it's a great place to go hiking and do other outdoor activities - just my thing! What's also cool is that you can spend time in the mountains as well as at the beach. I've never been on the road with one of our campers, I want to change that with the Slovenia trip. After all, you have to test your ´own` product.

As far as travel destinations in 2022 are concerned, I already have big plans: One: my boyfriend and I will go to the Dolomites for one or two weeks with our own camper, the dear Wilma. I've already been to the Dolomites once in 2020, and I just loved it there, and there's still so much to discover. For this, a camper is really the perfect companion, especially after the paths within the Dolomites are very long, longer than you might think. Therefore, it's quite good to be on the road with your accommodation instead of having a fixed base from which you have to start again every time. I could also imagine working remotely from the Dolomites, when I was in Chamonix in the fall with our camper it worked really well. In the meantime, I also have a great Internet contract, so the annoying WLAN search has also come to an end. Now I only need good reception, and fortunately I had no problem in the Dolomites so far!
On the second major trip, I'm going to New York to visit a friend for a week. After that, I'll meet my best friend in Central or South America, because she's visiting a friend in Chile at the same time and we want to meet halfway afterwards. Together we will then travel around for another two weeks before heading back home. Otherwise, I'm looking forward to many spontaneous weekend trips once our camper is (finally!) fully converted.

The Dolomites are - in addition to other short trips over the weekend - also at the top of my list. I have family in Alta Badia and would like to visit them this year by camper There's a beautiful campsite right next to the village I come from - the highest that the Dolomites has to offer! In addition, in 2022 there will be another Off camping trip for the whole team. But I don't want to reveal too much about that yet - let me surprise you 😉.
What should not be missing this year is my annual surf trip in summer. My boys and I will go surfing this year either in Spain, Portugal or France, the location is not finalized yet, just like the question if we will go by camper or rather rent an apartment. Towards winter I have planned the biggest trip. I'll go to the US for a longer period of time. Since I'll be working the whole time, this is more of a workation for me than a vacation in the classic sense. The plan is to visit a friend in Ventura and then rent either a camper or pick-up to drive along the west coast for a few weeks and check out the local start-up scene.

I'll go on a sporty holiday again this year and am planning a bike trip with a few buddies. Last year we cycled from Passau to Vienna, and in 2022 we are still unsure about the destination, but we definitely want to cycle along a river again - it's not that hilly ... Last year we were very sporty despite the lack of racing bikes and travelled 300 kilometres in three days, so unfortunately a few of our friends had to ´give up` on the way and have travelled by train. In the evening, we've always looked for a more or less spontaneous accommodation, because the weather was too bad for camping. So this time, we have to make sure we pass plenty of places to stay on the route as well, which isn't a bad idea in case someone gets hurt on the way.
Otherwise, my girlfriend and I will be driving our camper through Spain down to Portugal, along the Mediterranean Sea towards Portugal's Atlantic coast. But an exact route is not planned yet either. We leave in the fall, so we can stay spontaneous and do not have to book the campsites too far in advance. We'll just see which places we like and then stay there as long as we want to before moving on - but we'll probably pick out a few fixed destinations in advance as a rough guide. This trip is planned for about two weeks and we are really looking forward to our first road trip through Spain and to the sun as well!

I've already planned trips to two destinations in 2022. My boyfriend and I are going to a really great mansion in France for a week in May with my three best girlfriends, their husbands and kids. We are so lucky with the Airbnb as it even has a pond you can row a rowboat across! The men don't know each other that well yet, so the family vacation is also a great opportunity for the partners of my girlfriends and I to get to know each other better and hopefully to fall in love as well. The house is a bit further away from the next bigger city, and since we all travel from different cities, we all drive separately.
Then my boyfriend and I are going to Sweden in October for two weeks by camper - we also have our own camper but without auxiliary heating which is why we prefer to rent from Off. Route-wise, we have nothing planned at all, we just let that come to us. Otherwise, we like to visit friends over the weekend with our camper.

I'm going to South Africa again in 2022. My mother, my brother and I will be there at the end of the year for three to four weeks and also spend the Christmas holidays and New Year there. I fell in love with the country while I was living there, and since I have some friends between Cape Town and Johannesburg I have been there quite often in the last few years. However, due to the pandemic I haven't seen some people in over two years, I'm really looking forward to changing that this year. The plan is to fly to Cape Town for now and see my friends there. After that we will rent a car with a rooftop tent to sleep in and travel around the country, including stops at my friends' houses.
Since some of my friends have their own wildlife farms, we plan to go on safari there. My family and I will eventually be joined by a few of my friends, and then we'll go on safari together in the Kruger National Park or in the surrounding area - in addition to the well-known national park, there are many smaller reserves nearby. At the end of the trip, we'll probably treat ourselves to a slightly more expensive lodge for the last few nights. We always like to do that to spend the last nights in a more ´luxurious` way after sleeping in the roof tent for a while, although I always enjoy sleeping outside. It's all about a good mixture!

I'll already head to my first travel destinations in mid-March: Me and a buddy of mine are going to Portugal by camper, chasing the sun. We start in Munich and want to drive through Portugal within two to three weeks. Since wild camping in Portugal is kind of a gray area and you don't have to expect much trouble, we will probably just set up camp in nature and enjoy the freedom. Friends of ours are already down there at the moment, and at some point during the trip we'll probably join them. We will explore the country together, go surfing and hopefully make one or two new acquaintances.
But I'll also be travelling within Germany for a bit longer in 2022. Two friends of mine and I go on two-week adventure vacations every year, sometimes we go hiking, sometimes we go on a bike tour like this year. Whether we go north or prefer to explore the east, we do not know yet. We will spend the night in a tent. What we like most about this kind of travel is that you look at all the areas much more consciously than when driving through them by car and live in total in harmony with nature for a while.
